Artificial Cervical Disc Replacement, Prestige®
Artificial Cervical Disc Replacement, Prestige®: Overview
This procedure replaces a diseased or damaged spinal disc with an implant designed to preserve motion in the neck.
This procedure can relieve the pain of pinched nerves in the cervical spine.
STEP 1
The surgeon creates a small incision in the neck to gain access to the spine
STEP 2
The diseased disc is removed from between the vertebral bodies, relieving pressure on the pinched nerves
STEP 3
The surface of the vertebral bodies are cleared of all damaged disc tissue and shaped to accept the implant
STEP 4
The Prestige® Artificial cervical disc is inserted into the space between the verterbae with specialised screws. The implant is designed to preserve spinal motion and keep the cervical spine properly aligned. This differs from spinal fusion, where the implantation of a metal plate prevents movement at the treated level.
